2027 RSVP Conference
"STRUCTURES"
The theme of Structures takes inspiration from the host city of Ottawa, where natural and built environments intersect in ways that foreground questions of infrastructure, governance, and historical memory. From the Algonquin Anishnaabe stewardship of the region to Ottawa’s designation as Canada’s capital by Queen Victoria in 1857 and its iconic Neo-Gothic architecture, the city invites reflection on ‘structure’ in both literal and metaphorical senses. While structure can refer to the arrangement of parts into an identifiable whole, it also invokes Raymond Williams’s structure of feeling and, more recently, Brian Larkin’s conception of infrastructure as the material and relational systems that enable movement and connection.
For its 2027 conference in Ottawa, Ontario, the Research Society for Victorian Periodicals invites scholars to think about the relationship between periodicals, migrations, and movements from a range of vantage points.

Web Portal Submission Information
- To propose an individual or co-authored paper for the in-person conference, please submit a proposal (200-300 words) and a biographical note (100 words) for each author. Papers will be 15-20 minutes maximum.
- To propose a panel for the in-person conference (3 presenters), please submit a panel rationale (200 words), proposals for all presenters (200 words per person), and biographical notes. Each paper will be 15-20 minutes maximum.
- To propose a roundtable for the in-person conference (5 people), please submit a roundtable rationale (300 words) and biographical notes for all participants. Each presenter will speak for 6-7 minutes
- To propose a panel for pre-conference digital programming (3 presenters), please submit a panel rationale (200 words), proposals for all presenters (200 words per person), and biographical notes. Each paper will be up to 10 minutes maximum.
For co-authored papers, panels, and roundtables, one person can create an application in the web portal and list the other participants as collaborators (Please make sure to have and include complete information on all collaborators, particularly contact information).
